2025.01.12 TPP Official Statement on Taipei District Court's Decision to deny Ko Wen-je's Appeal

2025/01/13

The Taiwan People’s Party is deeply saddened and disappointed by the High Court’s decision to deny former Chairman Ko Wen-je’s appeal. After a four-month investigation marked by media manipulation and politically motivated persecution, the case has advanced to a formal indictment. However, the continued incommunicado detention is unjustified, violating Ko Wen-je’s personal freedom, right to defense, and access to a fair trial.

On January 11, over 100,000 citizens took to the streets, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to safeguarding judicial justice. Polls also show that over 40% of the public believes the prosecution’s evidence is insufficient.

The Taiwan People’s Party strongly urges President Lai Ching-te to stop weaponizing the judiciary against political opponents, suppressing opposition oversight, and inflicting further harm on Taiwan’s democracy.
